Adivasi Memoirs
Beyond The Jungle

One-Day Symposium on the completion of 50 years of the first Indian Adivasi Memoir/Autobiography Beyond The Jungle (1968) written by Sita Rathnamal.

On the completion of 50 years of the publication of India's first Adivasi autobiography 'Beyond the Jungle' written by Sita Rathnamal in 1968, we are going to organize a one-day national seminar in Ranchi (Jharkhand) on November 11, 2018. The title of the seminar is 'Adivasi Storytelling Beyond The Jungle'. This is the first literary event of its kind on Adivasi autobiographies and memoirs in which all of you are all cordially invited.

The purpose of this national symposium is to enrich Indian and world literature with Adivasi autobiographies and memoirs of India. It is important that during the last two decades there was a lot of discussion on autobiographical literature in India, especially on Women and Dalit autobiographies. But there was no mention or discussion on Adivasi biographies in this literary discourse. While the history of written and published Indian Adivasi Autobiography is 50 years old. The first Adivasi autobiography was published in English in 1968 and since then, more than a dozen Adivasi biographies have been published in various Indian languages (mainly in English and Hindi). It is therefore necessary that the history of writing Adivasi autobiography and its specificity be highlighted in the literature.
